THE STORY OF HAND-CRAFTED SHEA BUTTER

The Savannah Fruits Company is currently working with 140 cooperatives of about 20,000 women in Ghana and has now expanded to work with 20,000 others in Burkina Faso.

SFC helps these women organize themselves in cooperatives, pre-finances and accompany them in the production of a quality, handcrafted butter. SFC buys the butter and exports it to Europe to refine or filter it and repackage it according to international standards before shipping it worldwide.

SFC offers crude, unrefined (dried and filtered) or refined handcrafted shea butter as either:

Conventional
Organic Certified
Fair For Life Certified

By producing handcrafted shea butter, rural African women have the possibility to work all year round and earn an income, which allows them to be able to send their children to school, especially girls.

Half of our production is certified organic and SFC also offers Fair for Life certified products, too. Traceability is a constant concern for us as well as a sustainable and equitable approach to our partnerships with producers.

We source our organic shea nuts in conservation areas and respect for biodiversity is at the heart of our concerns. We work with several NGOs on national reserves (biosphere or forest) to support communities to respect protected areas by providing them with alternative incomes to poaching and timber harvesting.

We work with the Wechiau Community Hippo Sanctuary (WCHS) for the safeguarding of the hippopotamus, Mole National Park (Arocha) for elephants, but also in Gbele reserve and the wildlife corridors in Ghana.
