Fun Facts
Originally formed in 1987 to cultivate rice on six acres of land, the Women’s Cooperative in Kumbungu Kukuo later transitioned fully to shea butter production in 2000 after facing market challenges with rice. While engaging in rice farming, each woman continued to process shea butter individually at home, preserving a longstanding tradition.
Their partnership with SFC began in 2006, following increased income from selling to an SFC-linked center—marking a successful shift from farming to shea entrepreneurship.
Their journey reflects a strong legacy of adaptability, innovation, and collective empowerment.
